Hope Solo : The Media Should Leave Her Alone

The media, and by that I mean the Keith Olbermann's and Juliet Mancur's of the World, should leave Hope Solo alone. Every time I see a commentary or video by a mainstream media type, it contains constant rushes to judgement that defy logic. Keith Olbermann's rant made my eyes roll; Juliet Mancur's New York Times whatever-you-would-call-it made my eyes hurt. Hope Solo is not even close to Ray Rice. She's not the classic domestic violence aggressor, where's it's completely clear cut that she attacked her nephew and he did nothing. That entire story of life between Hope and her half-sister is just plain sad. What Hope has, to be honest, is a screwed up family situation, and it's been that way for some time. Hope's situation is so complicated that it can't be said to fall into the normal pattern of domestic violence. The problem is we have those who want to irrationally equalize the sexes to such a degree, that truth is thrown out of the window all to often, and that's certainly true in this case. Does Hope have a problem? Yes, and with her drink. The one constant in all of her storied run-ins with the law is she gets sassy with cops when she's drunk and angry. But the situations themselves are vastly different from one another. It's clear that Hope needs the solace of friends, and whatever non-dysfunctional family members she can find, and the field of play. Let's give her that. But please stop this burn the witch effort. It's silly, crazy, and also just plain unfair. Stop trying to fight the battle of the sexes in treatment with respect to domestic violence cases by using Hope Solo. What many of you are doing is nuts. Period. I am and will remain a Hope Solo fan. Deal with it.
